SYNAGOGUE/COMMUNITY EVENTS:

1. Professional Singles Schmooze and Nosh – Join us for our 2nd fun evening for professional singles in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s on Thursday, June 10th at 7:00pm.  This event, organized by “Power Singles”, will give you a chance to meet and schmooze with new friends while enjoying light refreshments.  Cost is $10 pp

2. Sisterhood 2010 Installation of Board of Directors and Officers – Please join us for a Sisterhood Shabbat and installation of our incoming Board of Directors and Officers on Saturday, June 12th at 9:00am.  A kiddush luncheon will follow services.  See flier at www.templeisraeloflb.org/fliers/sistershabbat.pdf.

3. Sisterhood Book Club – The next sisterhood book club meeting will be on Thursday, June 17th at 7:30pm at the home of Grace Levie, 159 National Boulevard in Long Beach.  The book to be discussed is “People of the Book” by Geraldine Brooks. 4. Debra Griboff’s 6th Annual Lecture Series – Please join Debra at the Long Beach Public Library when she presents “Seeing Double:  Jewish American Identity in the Films of Woody Allen and the Coen Bros.  This is a two part series that will explore how from “Annie Hall” to “A Serious Man”, these Oscar-winning directors use biting humor and social commentary to explore postwar Jewish Life.  On Wednesday, June 30th at 7:30pm, Debra will focus on the works of Woody Allen and on Wednesday, July 7th at 7:30pm, her focus will be on the Coen Bros.  The series is open to community at no charge. 5. Sisterhood White Elephant Sale – The white elephant sale has been scheduled for August 8th and 9th.  Your merchandise and help is needed.  See flier at www.templeisraeloflb.org/fliers/whiteelephant.pdf.

RECURRING EVENTS:

1.      Men’s Club Dinner Meeting: There is a Men’s Club meeting on the first Wednesday of every month, unless otherwise noted.  Dinner is served at 7:00 PM and the meeting begins at 7:30 PM.  All are welcome.  The next meeting is June 2, 2010.

2.      Join us for a short service, a light meal, and some lively conversation every Shabbat afternoon for Mincha, Seudah Shelishith, and Ma’ariv.  See “Synagogue Events” for exact time each week.

3.      Talmud class Sunday mornings at 7:45 AM.  We are currently studying Tractate Megillah.

CHESED OPPORTUNITIES (ACTS OF CHARITY AND KINDNESS):

1.      Volunteers needed: Looking for ways to volunteer? Contact FEGS “Partners in Caring” South Shore Liaison, Rachel Bruckenstein at (516) 766-4341 x 131.    Volunteer opportunities include “Adopt a Family,” food pantries, visiting the homebound, assisting families coping with serious or terminal illness, and more.  Time commitments are flexible and will be agreed upon between volunteer and FEGS Volunteer Coordinator.

6.       Something to celebrate or commemorate?  Sponsorships available: Seudah Shelishith $50, “Costco Kiddush” starting at $100 or Kiddush luncheon starting at approximately $10 per person.  Please note: Seudah Shelishith must be paid for in cash (tax receipt available upon request).

8.       Sisterhood Collection: The Sisterhood is collecting used eyeglasses, cell phones, and used ink cartridges.   Please drop your donations off in the box near the Hebrew School office.  The Sisterhood has already collected funds for used cartridges.  Thank you and please keep it up!

9.       Donate to the Sisterhood:  We are assembling a new Golden Book.  Pages are $50.  Donation cards can still be purchased for $5 each or 6 for $25.  Contact the office or .

10.   Refuah Sheleimah: Temple Israel extends get-well wishes to Al Eagle, Helene Gerber, Nathaniel Glasgold, Adele Peysner, Lester Peysner and Rachel Scharman.  If you or someone you know is ill, please fill out the Bikur Cholim (visiting the sick) form in the synagogue office, or call us with the information.
